About Me...

My name is Madeline... a name I am very proud of because my mom picked it out special. She was watching the mini-series called North & South (she loves Patrick Swayze); in the show one of the main heroines is named Madeline, who is a strong, independent, compassionate woman, my mom fell in love with the name and decided that when she had a daughter that is the name she would pick.

I am a born and raised Coloradoan. I was born on the 15th of September, 1992. It was a Tuesday morning when my mom woke up feeling some pain in her abdomen knowing that her due date was very soon. My mom is normally not the cool, calm, and collected type, but when she went into labor it was my dad (the actual calm and collected one) who flipped out a little bit. It was like that scene in the film starring Kevin Bacon She's Having a Baby when he gets everything loaded into the car and drives to the hospital only to realize that he took off without his wife in the car. My dad did something very similar: he locked the car keys in the house, and the only open window was at chin height, so he scaled the wall like Spiderman to get into the house. When I went into labor I thought I would have flipped out a little bit, but I actually stayed relatively calm. I first noticed some contractions (thinking they were Braxton Hicks) when my husband and I were out to lunch with my mom. Then when we got back home I started to notice them again and this time they were getting a little closer together. My doctor's would tell me at every appointment to labor at home as long as possible. We waited until about 5:30pm on the night of June 27th, 2023 before we decided to drive to the hospital. I don't know if it was because my placenta was located in the front, but my labor pains didn't hurt that bad until I got into the hospital, then I was having a contraction every hour; making sleeping extremely difficult. I went in thinking I was gonna try a natural childbirth, but I was so tired that I just wanted to sleep before I had to start to pushing, so I got the epidural. I know they say that smart women remember the pain of childbirth, but I honestly don't remember the pain, I remember the duration of my delivery ( 2 hours). I was pushing for two hours, hats off to my labor and delivery nurse for getting creative to help me; she grabbed a bed sheet and gave me one end of it and she had the other end of it so that when I felt a contraction I would pull on the sheet and she would pull on the sheet and we would play tug-of-war to help me push.

My daughter was born June 28th, 2023 at 12:00 in the afternoon, and I was admitted into the hospital at 9:00pm the night before. When she came out my mom instantly cried and whispered in my ear, "You're a mother now!"

I HAVE A PURPOSE!
